“Stafford House is not too big, in fact it’s just the right size for me. I get lots of attention from the tutors and I get to interact with the classes. If I was in a larger school I do not think my English would be improving so quickly! These are the best teachers I have ever met in my life. I have been taught by so many in the past and it’s the teachers at School of English that have affected me the most.

I love the social side of the School of English, the activities we do really involve me in the culture. When I tell friends of mine who are studying at other English schools about the activities I do here, they become jealous!

I take part in activities every night; parties, football, music. I especially liked the recent ‘Arabic night’ we had - we cooked Arabic food, listened to Arabic music and dressed in traditional Arabic garments - I meet a lot of different people.”

I chose Stafford House School of English because it was recommended by my cousin. I like that there are so many people from so many countries here.

I love Canterbury, it’s beautiful. I love the shopping, the history, the Cathedral, the coffee shops – I love being here and getting to hang out with my friends.”

    Before Stafford House:
I have never thought that I am going to be able to speak English in my life. When I see my father speaks English, I used to ask myself, how is it possible to speak another language like this? Until I decided to do my masters in the UK, I thought there might be a good opportunity to learn English language.

At first, I had an acceptance from an English school in the north of Wales. I was very advocated to see what this country is like and how I am going to experience this completely new life. But when I arrived I was surprised that there are so many students who speak my own language, I even didn’t have a resident arrangement from the school.

I was really disappointed. After spending 4 months without any improvement in my English, my friends advised me to change this school to another one called Stafford House School of English. To be honest I was afraid that I would end up with the same problems.

    First Day in Canterbury:
After deep thinking I managed to go to Canterbury. My first impression was quite good. Very nice small city, friendly people and it seemed that every thing is close to the school. I visited the school to get an acceptance. They were very welcoming. It was enough for me that the stuff was trying to understand what I was saying, because my English at that time was very poor.

Then I got my acceptance with all dilates needed for the embassy including my host family information. I really liked the way they organise their business. After one long day, I went back home to renew my visa and come over again to start my course on 20/07/2009.

    Studying experience:
My first day was completely different than the one I had in Wales. I saw so many people from all over the world, even people who are from my country they don’t speak my language in the class. There were so many activates during the week, such as, watching movies, playing pools, dancing, social activates and even sports. Even though I don’t like to do sports I started playing some.

Stafford house has an excellent range of very qualified stuff and teachers. They helped me a lot to see my future direction and set up my plans wisely. Most importantly is that students can share their experiences with each other especially during the international activities. I can say now that I had the chance to enjoy learning not only English language but also every single thing about English culture and the world.

I spent 10 fruitful months in Stafford House starting with pre-Intermediate level until I reached Advanced level. Throughout that period I did IELTS and FCE courses.

Finally, This is only a little of the experience I had in this lovely school. I promise to advise every singe student who want to study English to join Stafford House School of English.

    Special thanks to
    Teachers: Marina, Annie and Jane.

Here I can live in one of the biggest and greatest cities in the world, explore the diversity that only metropolitans can provide without giving up of living the real American culture. The city is home of many historical places and is a vibrant part of the American history. Stafford House allows me to make my English classes much more than lessons inside the classroom - they give me great opportunities to understand and experience the culture while I learn the language.

There was so much to enjoy about studying here - the teachers and people who work here who are really fun, there are a lot of activities – skiing was my favourite. Our teachers are very good at knowing exactly where we needed to grow, in what areas we might have doubts or specific questions and in getting us to speak in English without realising we were speaking. The location here in Boston is perfect because you can go anywhere as you’re right in the centre of the city.

I am from Thailand. I have spent four months at Stafford house, and all staff is very helpful and generous to help me improve my English skills. I have gone to TOEFL Class and Business English Class. I learned a lot of skills such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It helps me to deal with the TOEFL exam but I also learn how I can use those skills that I have learned in everyday life. The business class is very interesting because it has a new interesting topic every week. I have an opportunity to make friends coming from other countries. A teacher is very helpful and always encourages me to speak English in and out classroom. There are a lot of interesting activities going on every week such as a restaurant tour, going to museums around Chicago, watching a movie, special activities, etc. Finally, all the staff and teachers are willing to encourage you to improve your English. I am looking forward to seeing you at Stafford House Chicago,

Once I reach the English language level I need I will go to study at Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts! The teachers here are very very good! I started here as a beginner and I didn’t know what I was saying, it was difficult to talk and understand others, communicate with people from different countries with different accents, now really I find it so easy to communicate with both internationals and native speakers and understand what they say. I think I’m ready to start my university studies and that means I’ve achieved my goal. I’ve passed the exams to start my pre-sessional course so Stafford House helped me to get into university that I wanted.

Staff here is very helpful they always smile and always friendly – provide us help with everything we need. Stafford House is something else, it’s difficult to explain, it’s like my second home – I will miss it very much.

Teachers at Stafford house are so fabulous! I’ve learned from them not only English but also a lot about British culture. Classes are very enjoyable and fun – we learn by playing games and working in groups. When I arrived I could only understand about 20% of what people were saying to me in English but now I understand 80-90% so my English has definitely improved a lot! I was in Intermediate level and now I’m in Advanced.

The staff here are very friendly and they are friends for me now not just staff. I’m staying in a host family and I’ve met the most angel-like host mother and father – I’m very happy living with them. They are very young – under 35 and it seems that they are like my friends. They have made my life in the UK much easier – they’ve even organised a special festival party for me. Social programme is great – excursions and activities change every week so we are not bored of it, and it’s a great chance to meet and socialise with other international students and practise your English.

Kevin spent 5 months at Stafford House School of English in Canterbury and is now preparing to begin the Pre: Programme at CATS College Canterbury.

    Kevin's story
Kevin finished F.5 in HK in last July, but the result was disappointing, with an English IELTS of only 2.5.

His mother visited Stafford House in September together with Kevin, and they decided it would be a good place for him to improve his English before further study.

Kevin made many friends from around the world - Korea, Saudi Arabia and more.

After only 5 months at Stafford House, Kevin's mother was delighted to find that Kevin had improved significantly – he is now able to speak English well and his listening skills are also very strong.

For his accommodation, Kevin chose the homestay option, staying with a local family. This was so successful he has asked to stay with the same family when he moves over to CATS College Canterbury.

Kevin's aim is to study the A level Business pathway at CATS and is looking forward to going to University in a couple of years.

Toronto is a unique city where people from all over the world live and work. My language school is a part of Toronto, there are students from all over the world. The school is conveniently located near the subway station. All the formalities and any issues are solved quickly with excellent student service staff: Akane, Veronika and Sam.

I really like the size of classes and the large windows with them. This school also has computer room and a comfortable room where you can have lunch. Education is always in a positive way and many events and activities are hosted by the school almost every day.

I really enjoyed studying at Stafford House School of English. The school is so beautiful - an old building but with great facilities - library, a computer room, Wi-Fi access - and very polite staff that help you every time you need it. Also because we studied in smaller classes it meant the teacher was able to follow and help every one of us.

I didn’t have any knowledge about Project Management so I was really nervous before I studied in this class. But I realized that the teacher and classmates help me a lot. The class was really pleasant and it was not only useful for my career path and daily life but also it was a good chance to work with other international students. I practiced how to present in public places, how to do a project, how to communicate, etc. Moreover, the friendships that I have made with staff, teachers, and other students from Stafford House make them my lovely family in the United States.

I improved my English a lot! I started in Pre-Intermediate level and progressed to advanced. I had a lot of teachers in the time that I’ve been here and I think they are the best! They really care and help us with every question that we have. I also love the social programme and activity managers! I took a lot of trips over the weekends to Brighton, London, Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds Castle, Dover Castle so I feel like I’ve travelled all over and know Britain very well. And now my IELTS score will help me progress onto a Master’s degree in Manchester University. I live with a host family and I think that they are the most lovely host family that anybody can have!

I work in an international company in France, as a lawyer, and I need English in my day-to-day work. I came here because I needed to gain confidence in my English, my speaking and presentation skills. I had to immerse myself in an English speaking culture. The teachers here are very good and professional, their methods and techniques are great. In class we are between 5 to 10 students which is very good because the teacher has the time for everyone. You can really ask every question you have and they are always keen to help you. I’ve made a lot of friends and we’ll stay in touch for sure. It was a very worthwhile experience.

Recommended by a friend, I really like Stafford House! There are many activities and our activity leaders are very cool and I’m always socialising and traveling all around. All my friends are usually coming with me and we have this extra opportunity to speak and practise our English. I’m staying with a host family and I really like them! I talk with them a lot when I go home and have dinner with them. They are great and taught me how to play Lawn Bowling - it’s so much fun! My teachers are all very different but I like all of them.

I am a college student from Japan. I took a year off from my university to study abroad. I am taking Professional Certificates as regular classes along with CPA elective. I chose CPA to improve my resume and to experience an American workplace. I think it will help me when I look for a job because I wish to work for an international company in the future and it is good to know what American workplace is as well as how a global company works.

Through this working experience at Blackstone Group, I learned a lot. My tasks were not the same everyday. They gave me many different tasks with different people so that I could do wide range of work and interact with many people. I also appreciate their supportive attitudes. They brought me interesting tasks and gave me helpful feedback on my work such as report writing and email to clients. Also when I was in marketing class at intrax someone in the market department shared their marketing plans with me and when I was in project management class I was working with a project team so I could make connections between what I learned in class and what is happening in the actual business world.

I would recommend Stafford House to my friends. When I arrived in San Francisco, I had many meetings and presentations. With One-to-One English classes, I could make completely tailor made classes according to my needs and objectives. All my teachers were so prepared. In my case, I could identify the specific pronunciation and grammar to improve my presentations and meetings. The classes have helped me with my goals!

I work for a pharmaceutical company in Japan and study in Chicago for several months to improve my English. The reason why I applied CPA program is because I wanted to practice English more with native speakers and to have a working experience in an American company or organization. As I work for the pharmaceutical industry, I looked for a company or organization related to healthcare. Although there were few options, I got a opportunity to work with Imerman Angels fortunately. My ordinary responsibilities were to support management of donation, the list of volunteer contact, and brochure requests from people who are interested in our activities. Coworkers are very kind and they accepted what I wanted to do. I asked them to let me join some social events (Brunch Run/Walk 5K, Sweet Treat Socials, Wings of Hope Gala, and Lunch & Learn). Especially in the events called "Socials" in our organization, I visited some hospitals and talked with some healthcare professionals and many cancer fighters and caregivers. I'm impressed by their mission and activities. These experiences must be helpful to work in the healthcare industry around the world.

I enjoyed all things about Stafford House. We have lots of activities and get to choose from many different options. Pub nights, museums, cinema days, pool competition. Every weekend we have a journey to another city - Cambridge, Oxford, London and Brighton - they are really unforgettable memories for us. I feel that I really improved my English at Stafford House - of course my main aim! Before I came here I didn’t trust my speaking and it was really hard to understand the English accent but now I can speak fluently and understand everything.

I’m Spanish graduated in Business Management and Marketing, with 10 years of professional experience in Sales, Marketing and PR areas. I took the CPA program because I wanted to improve my English in a real professional English environment.

I had the opportunity to work on a variety of dynamic projects, observing numerous aspects of Marketing, PR, and Communication. From preparing presentations for potential investors, researching information about hospitality groups in Chicago and different conferences and workshops around US, updating their partner database thru phone calls, writing articles about actuality issues related with entrepreneurial and law aspects, preparing possible questions for different speakers in workshops, writing a welcome letter to participants upcoming events and taking part in different internal and external meetings. At the same time, I had the possibility of learning about the US professional culture and the differences respect to Europe. But, now, the most important thing to me is all of these things have increased my self self confidence and adds important value to my resume.

I love everything about the school, I love how the teachers teach, they explain everything and if I don’t understand they will explain it until I understand, all the people are friendly. I love this school so much. I will take TOEFL when I’m finished studying here, I will go to Virginia to study in university. The course has helped me with my future goals; you can’t go to university and not speak English!

The school is great – I enjoy the classes and we have a nice student lounge and cafe where we can spend time with our friends, have lunch, watch TV! I enjoy exploring the city and find interesting hidden galleries, shops and pubs.

Stafford House is a great school! I’m doing very well, my English is progressing very fast. When I came here I didn’t know any English and in a month and half that I’ve been here I’ve progressed to Intermediate level. Teachers here are amazing and lessons are fun – we are playing games and doing exercises but at the same time learning English and grammar! I’ve made a lot of friends here from different nationalities. We hang out a lot to practise our English more. There is a great social programme and I love Brighton! Student house is a great place to live! The bedrooms are big and it’s very clean and I keep socialising even when I’m at home.

Toronto is a large multi-cultural city located in the East of Canada, which is a beautiful and developed country attracting tourists and students from all over the world. This school is a very welcoming school located in the area called North York. This area is very safe and clean. There is easy access to the transportation and to Downtown Toronto as well.

That’s why I chose Toronto and think that it was my best choice for my exchange experience. The opportunity to meet people from many different countries and learn about their cultures in one city that also offers both nature and city side, is very satisfying!

In my opinion teachers in Stafford House are very good because they can give us examples and whenever I have a question they really take time to explain and make sure I understand. I have 4 different teachers in 5 months that I’ve studied here. The classes are very useful and it was a great choice to go for intensive class. I’ve made great progress – I used to speak very slow and made a lot of mistakes, now I still make mistakes but I’m much more confident and have a wider vocabulary. Staff in the school is very friendly and provide a good service! It’s important because when you live in a foreign country you need a lot of help and staff is here to help us and resolve any issues. Social programme here is very useful because you can use the language that you learn in the classroom and you can practise a lot more.
