The Stafford House London school is situated in Bloomsbury, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Holborn Station or Tottenham Court Road Station in “mid-town”. We are close to the British Museum and other major attractions and shopping areas so it is a perfect place to begin your CELTA adventure.

We provide guidance on finding jobs and the broad range of career opportunities and specialisations that exist within ELT. In addition, Stafford House International teachers English at 3 year round locations and 14 summer locations across the UK, and Canada. At Stafford House we recruit strong candidates directly from our CELTA courses to work in our junior summer centres and our year round schools. Once you’re part of the Stafford House family, there are numerous career paths for English language teachers.



PART TIME OR FULL TIME ONLINE AND IN-SCHOOL CELTAS

Our programmes vary and can be as flexible as you need to reach your CELTA goals. We want our trainees to feel confident when they select a Stafford House programme that it will be the right fit for them.

All Stafford House online and in-school programmes offer the same CELTA certification. In-school programmes take place at our London school in Bloomsbury. Our online programme takes place 100% online, including teaching practice, and uses the Zoom platform and the Moodle learning environment.

 

Our CELTA in-school part-time programme is the perfect fit for trainees looking for face-to-face evening and weekend classes. We offer both 10-12 week and 24 week options. Please see below for dates and in-school teaching practice times. All times given are London local time.

A global teaching qualification

COURSE CONTENT

  • The course is a mixture of practice & theory
  • 120 contact hours
  • 6 hours of assessed teaching practice for each trainee
  • 6 hours of observation of experienced teachers
  • A minimum of 80 additional learning hours for reading, research, assignment writing and lesson preparation
  • Course content and assessment is the same, whether the course is taken online or face-to-face

All Stafford House CELTA courses cover the following:

Input sessions You will attend input sessions on methodology and practice given by our tutors to the whole group of trainees. These will equip you with theoretical and practical knowledge and ideas to inform and plan your lessons. (Input will be online for the Online CELTA.)

Teaching practice (TP) You will teach for a total of six hours, working with classes at two or three levels of ability. This will involve the planning and delivery of lessons observed by your TP tutor and colleagues, which will be immediately followed by a written self-evaluation, and feedback and comments from you, your tutor and colleagues.

Assignments You will complete four written assignments of 750-1000 words.

Observations You will watch full-hour lessons taught by experienced teachers while you take notes on methodology and practice.


Application Requirements

If you are interested in achieving a CELTA you should consider these entry requirements and standard English levels.

  • English language proficiency at C1 or C2 Cambridge English levels
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Similar education experience needed for higher education
  • The potential to become an effective English Language teacher
  • The ability to complete assignments and assessments
  • The ability to research and understand grammar
  • Adequate competence in written and spoken English
