Accommodation

Stafford House San Diego offers a range of accommodation options. Whether you would prefer to live independently in a student residence, or with an English speaking family, we have a flexible accommodation option to help you get the most out of learning English in California!

Homestay Accommodation

Living with an American family is a unique way to experience American traditions and culture first-hand. You will practice your English language skills with real Americans every day. If you would like to stay in a homestay, you are placed with a trusted family in the San Diego area. Each family is carefully screened and interviewed. We have single rooms or rooms with roommates. Families provide you with breakfast and dinner every week (14 meals). Most host families are located within 40-60 minutes of Stafford House Centers by public transportation.

At Stafford House we do all we can to ensure we match you with your perfect homestay. If you wish to truly experience American culture by staying at one of our homestays, please allow us 4 weeks before you arrive at the school to arrange your accommodation to ensure we can find a homestay experience best suited to you.

Vantaggio State Street Residence

Vantaggio State Street offers both private and shared rooms less than 20 minutes walking distance of the school. Located in the Little Italy neighborhood, this accommodation is close to many restaurants, shops, and a large Saturday farmer’s market. Vantaggio State Street Residence takes students ages 18+

Vantaggio Gaslamp Residence

Vantaggio Suites Gaslamp is a historical building constructed in 1886. The accommodation is in a great location of the Gaslamp district on 6th Avenue, within just a few minutes’ walking distance of the school, restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and public transportation. Vantaggio Gaslamp Residence takes students aged 16+

All of our teachers hold teaching qualifications ranging from certificate to diploma level and are committed to continuous development and share our passion for learning with our students.

Alana Ritchison

Student Advisor                             

Alana loves working with international students and has been working in Education as a teacher and guidance counselor for ten years. Originally from the UK, Alana has also lived in Thailand and Taiwan before settling here in San Diego.  As an administrative counselor, she can help students with program changes and visa questions. 

Fernanda Crowe

Center Director                               

Fernanda Crowe had previously worked at the San Diego school from 2004 to 2014 when she took on a national role as Director of Student Experience – managing both the Academics and Student Services team.  She’s happy to be back in the center where she can interact more with students while still managing the Academics team. She is responsible for ensuring students receive a high quality education and enjoy their time at Stafford House. She loves seeing our students gain confidence in their English skills and make lifelong friends with classmates from all over the world.

Laura Diniz

Laura is committed to enhancing the student experience and is responsible for Accommodations in the San Diego center. As a member of the front desk team, she is also available to offer general guidance on school and the local area.

Linda Murray

Student Services Manager

Linda is committed to enhancing the student experience and oversees the Student Services team, which includes Accommodations, Activities and Administration. She can give you plenty of guidance on school matters as well as fun and interesting activities to do in San Diego. Linda started her career as an ESL teacher and loves working with international students. She has worked in ESL schools in Australia, the UK, Italy and the USA and has more than 20 years’ experience in teaching and management. She is also a Cambridge FCE and CAE Speaking Examiner and speaks fluent Italian. Originally from Sydney Australia, she thinks that San Diego is one of the best places in the world to study English! 

Patti Cates

Assistant Director of Studies

Patti Cates has a Master of Arts in English Linguistics from the San Francisco State University and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Spanish. She has taught English in Spain, Taiwan, Japan, Berkeley and now here in San Diego with Stafford House.

William Nowatnick

Director of Studies

My name is William and I am a sports fanatic and Test Prep enthusiast. I've been teaching ESL for 7 years and I have focused mostly on TOEFL and CAE, but I also have knowledge of IELTS, FCE, and TOEIC. Please feel free to ask me any questions about English and/or any American sports like baseball and football. Go Padres!
