Autumn at Our Cambridge English School: A Bright 2027 Ahead

Autumn has arrived in Cambridge. The air is cooler, the autumn colours are starting to appear, and the city looks spectacular. At our English school in Cambridge, the atmosphere is just as bright: this week we welcomed 93 students, up from 65 in the same week last year.

Here’s a look at what’s been happening, and why we’re so excited about the months ahead.

Learning English in Cambridge: a thriving, international community

Our individual students have formed a steady cohort of 50 to 60 throughout September and October, right where we’d expect to be. And as always in Cambridge, the classroom is a genuine mix of the world. This week alone we have 19 nationalities in school, with Turkish (12%), Saudi (11%) and Korean (11%) students the best represented among our individuals.

Groups are keeping us busy too. This week a group from Switzerland joined a Brazilian group in their final week, with both studying in mixed, international classes. Two Brazilian groups have already been and gone this autumn, and two more arrive before Christmas, staying for 4 and 12 weeks.

Our Brazilian students consistently impress us with their enthusiasm, dedication and positive attitude. They throw themselves into school life, take their studies seriously and add so much to our community. Every group brings its own personality, but they all share the same warmth and willingness to learn. We’re already looking forward to welcoming more groups throughout 2027.

Once a lion, always a lion

Every student who studies with us becomes part of our international community, so we’re always delighted when familiar faces drop by to say hello.

Recently we had a visit from Goksal, a successful lawyer from Turkey who studied with us in 2018 to build a more international career. He introduced us to his fiancée from Poland and told us how learning English and studying abroad opened new doors for him, professionally and personally. Just last week, Benjamin from Germany visited and shared what a profound effect the school had on him: building his confidence and preparing him for the next stage of his academic journey.

Stories like these remind us of the lasting impact of language learning, and we love hearing how our former students are getting on around the world.

Celebrating our students

Each month, staff and students nominate a Student of the Month. Our current winner is João Lucca from Brazil. His teacher describes him as talented, engaging and charismatic, and he brings great energy to every lesson. He’s always eager to join class discussions with thoughtful ideas, and his guitar playing has won over staff and classmates alike.

Another success story is Yahya from Palestine, a great example of what determination can achieve. He joined us as a complete beginner, took a short break, and returned with renewed motivation. He has now reached Intermediate level and is aiming to take IELTS in December. We’re proud of how far he’s come and will be supporting him every step of the way.

A small Cambridge English school with big academic reach

2026 saw Cambridge run its first CELTA course for aspiring English teachers. We’ve now delivered two successful courses, with another already scheduled for 2027.

We also teach English to CSVPA students, supporting them through their foundation course studies. For a small school, we pack quite a punch: for our own students, for our sister school, and for the wider English language teaching community.

Life beyond the classroom

Our social programme remains a big part of the Cambridge experience. In school, students have been making their own tote bags and taking on photography challenges with our resident expert, Activity Leader Jack. Out in the city, there’s punting on the River Cam and world-famous museums and colleges to explore. Weekend excursions take students further afield, with Bath and Stonehenge a firm favourite.

Next up: Halloween and Bonfire Night, complete with decorating the school and our ever-popular pumpkin carving competition.

A home from home

Master’s residence continues to be a favourite, running at 94% occupancy this financial year. There are still a few spaces in the coming weeks, with more availability opening up from late November. Through the autumn, our homestay options grow too, as many of our long-standing, reliable hosts become available.

In our students’ words

To get a true flavour of the school, we’ll let our students speak for themselves. So far, 100% of October leavers would recommend the school, and 78% would strongly recommend it. There’s no better proof that Cambridge is a great place to be this autumn. This is what they say:

“I had never studied anything like that before, so it was really interesting, and I learned quite quickly. Always very helpful and kind.”

“Everyone was great to me, and I liked it so much!“

“The teacher was great, clear and gentle and the host mom was absolutely amazing.”

“This school is perfect.“

“The activities are so interesting and enjoyable.”

“My lessons were interesting and useful. Thanks to the teacher, every lesson was a lot of fun.”

Looking ahead to 2027

2027 is already shaping up to be a busy year. A large group from Argentina arrives at the start of January, more Brazilian groups are on the way, and our next CELTA course is in the calendar.

We’d be delighted to welcome your students to our Cambridge English school in the year ahead, and to help them have the trip of a lifetime: making new connections, enjoying a great experience, and building the English that opens up future possibilities for work, study and travel.
